Q: How long do I have to file a lawsuit challenging a Sunshine Act violation?
A: Under the Sunshine Act, a legal challenge to an alleged violation must be filed within 30 days from the date of a meeting that was open, or within 30 days from the discovery of a violation that occurred at a closed meeting. Regardless of when you learned about the violation, however, no action may be filed more than one year after the alleged violation occurred.
