Q: OSHA ALERT: Attention Newspapers using SLS1000 and SLS2000 inserters
A: As sold, SLS1000 and SLS2000 inserters do not have interlock guards. OSHA takes the position that the machine design is in violation of guard safety standards, despite the fact that the machines, as manufactured, were not equipped with these guards. According to OSHA, these machines must be retro-fitted with either guard locks or interlock shut-off switches in order to satisfy safety standards.
The Tribune-Review Publishing Company was recently cited by OSHA for the failure to have interlock guards on these machines. Tribune-Review personnel have designed an electric shut-off that they are willing to share with other newspapers. Please contact the PNA Legal Hotline at (717) 703-3080 for additional information.
