Foundation Update: Help with Scholastic & Collegiate Keystone winners publication

For the last two years the PNA Foundation has been proud to publish a collection of award-winning entries for our only contest established for budding young journalists -- the Scholastic & Collegiate Keystone Press Awards. For many young and future journalists, the Keystone contest is their first introduction to the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association. Our members have expressed their appreciation of this publication and have taken the time to read through the many outstanding articles and works produced by students from high schools and colleges across the Commonwealth. It is our hope that the students will continue to grow their talent at weekly, daily, community and metro newspapers across the state.

Don Gilliland, managing editor of The Potter Leader–Enterprise in Coudersport, said it best in our inaugural edition, “Now students around the state can see clearly where the bar has been set for winning a Collegiate or Scholastic Keystone Award, and more importantly, editors around the state can now see what our most promising young journalists are producing.”

“There’s an energy and commitment and extraordinary talent around Pennsylvania seen in these entries,” added Bob Heisse, executive editor of the Centre Daily Times in State College.

The PNA couldn’t agree more. And we, too, are committed to continuing to showcase the students’ good works in this awards publication.

Many PNA Foundation man hours are required to collect, edit and design the Scholastic & Keystone Press Awards publication. So in 2009 we are asking for member sponsorship for printing the tab, which is distributed to all PNA member editors, along with Pennsylvania college and high school student newspapers. Please consider sponsorship for printing the 2009 Scholastic & Collegiate Keystone winners publication. Help us continue to spread the word and share the talent of our Pennsylvania student journalists.
