In the two years that I’ve been with PNA, we’ve ramped up our training program to give members more choices, both topically and by providing new methods for them to participate. In addition, the quality of trainers has been stellar, making it all the more worthwhile to spend a day out of the office.
There’s something for everyone on the fall training calendar. Here are some of the highlights:
| • |
For advertising staff in the western part of the state, don’t miss the opportunity to attend the Online Streetfighter Workshop led by the well-know advertising trainer, Mike Blinder. The workshop is scheduled for Aug. 7 and will take place at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Mike taught a similar course for PNA in March and received rave reviews:
- “Mike provided excellent direction made some excellent points and gave us strong encouragement for the future.”
- “The seminar was packed with excellent content, enthusiasm and open dialogue.”
- “This was the perfect seminar for entry to mid-level online sales and management personnel.”

Also scheduled are two PNA On the Road sessions focusing on revenue generation in tough times. On Sept. 25, PNA staff will head to Wilkes-Barre to lead the one-day session. A second PNA On the Road is planned for November in the King of Prussia area. |

For those of you on the editorial side, we have two outstanding seminars planned. On Sept. 2, we’re offering a day-long workshop for people who cover religion and faith. Don’t miss Prayer, Politics, Pretzels: Covering Faith in Pennsylvania, taught by representatives from the Religion Newswriters Association. On Oct. 6, business writers will want to register for Private Companies: Reporting, Research & Multimedia Coverage, a course developed by the Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism. The course will go over important aspects of covering business such as writing about private company financials and tips for effectively reporting online stories that appeal to readers. Both seminars will take place at PNA’s headquarters in Harrisburg. |
