PNA applauds Gov. Rendell for appointment of Mutchler to Office of Open Records
The PNA wants to commend Gov. Rendell for his appointment yesterday (April 23) of Terry Mutchler to executive director of the newly created Office of Open Records.

Mutchler's background as a reporter, AP bureau chief, media lawyer and public access counselor in Illinois lead us to believe that she has the right approach to access. As Mutchler stated to The (Harrisburg) Patriot-News, “… I can assure the citizens of Pennsylvania, that if and when I make an error, it’s going to be on the side of openness.”

Easton officer accidentally killed in 2005; Express-Times seeks autopsy report since 2006
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court heard arguments on April 16, in The (Easton) Express-Times' appeal to obtain the autopsy report of slain Easton police officer Jesse Sollman.

The newspaper requested the report in February 2006, nearly a year after Sollman was accidentally shot by fellow officer Matthew Renninger at the Easton police station March 25, 2005.

Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim denied the request in February 2006.

Notes from the Capitol: Business as usual?
All that work on Act 3, the Right to Know Law of 2008, and now Terry Mutchler's been appointed by Rendell to lead the Office of Open Records, but have you noticed it sort of looks like business as usual when it comes to allowing voters to keep tabs on what's being planned before it happens? Read on for the Uniontown Herald-Standard's analysis of that 'shoppers' proposal.

AP goes mobile with new Mobile News Network
The AP is going mobile. The nonprofit news cooperative, which recently beefed up its entertainment news staff, announced the formation of the Mobile News Network, which will deliver news to smart phones including Apple's iPhone.

The network is the first product from the AP’s Digital Cooperative, which was formed to identify digital opportunities for AP content. It is currently being tested with a small number of Digital Cooperative participants and is expected to launch on a wider basis this summer.
