After nearly 40 years, Hummelstown Sun editor seeks to sell
After owning The (Hummelstown) Sun for 37 years, Editor Bill Jackson and wife Rosemary are trying to find a buyer. The Jacksons are just the fourth owners of the paper since it was started in 1871.

The Sun building isn't for sale. It's owned by the Jacksons separate from The Sun corporation, which is for sale. The Sun is printed in Ephrata by a printing company.

News Gleaner Publications celebrates 125 years
In June, News Gleaner Publications celebrated 125 years of publishing in North East Philadelphia. The publications include the Frankford News Gleaner, the Somerton Edition of the News Gleaner and since 1988 the Life Publications in Montgomery and Bucks County.

New Morning Call Web site offers fresh look and enhanced user experience
The (Allentown) Morning Call relaunched its Web site July 11 with a cleaner, brighter look, a new name and a host of new features that enhance the user experience. Formerly named mcall.com, themorningcall.com will better serve users in the broadband environment. The site features more prominent video placement to complement content and interactive tools that enable users to share photos, videos, opinions and stories.

Two Pa. papers weigh in on new sports coverage rules
The National Football League (NFL) recently imposed several new rules regarding media coverage of football games, players and team personnel.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the first rule limits media outlets to 45 seconds of online audio or video footage with league or team personnel per day on NFL property. Another requires media Web sites to remove footage after 24 hours and include links to the Web sites of pertinent teams and nfl.com.

Scaife-owned Pittsburgh Tribune-Review calls for Iraq troop withdrawal -- questions Bush's 'mental stability'
On July 15 the Pittsburgh newspaper owned by conservative billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife called the Bush administration's plans to stay the course in Iraq a "prescription for American suicide."

Diana Block named Pittsburgh Post-Gazette co-publisher
Diana Block was named co-publisher of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Blade of Toledo, Ohio, effective June 1.

Ms. Block, 34, will continue in her current role as general manager for the Post-Gazette. A great-granddaughter of Paul Block, who first published the Post-Gazette in 1927, Ms. Block has held previous jobs at the newspaper including vice president of operations, systems director and reporter.

Report: Young adults avoiding newspapers -- and other news outlets
Americans younger than 30 are reading newspapers -- and consuming news in all forms -- less and less on a regular basis than their older counterparts, according to a new survey, which revealed teen-agers with the worst regular news habits.

Google expands newspaper push
Google is broadening its effort to sell newspaper ads by opening its fledgling placement system to its entire advertising base and expanding the network's newspaper partners.

The Internet giant in November began testing its print ad system with 50 newspapers, including The New York Times and Washington Post.

Based on what it says were positive results, Google is now adding a print advertising tab to the accounts page of all its AdWords advertisers. The company has also expanded participating newspapers to 225, covering 50 percent of U.S. circulation, it said.

Baltimore Sun launches newly designed Web site
Baltimoresun.com was relaunched July 17 with a new, more streamlined design, a better search tool and a host of added features to enhance the user experience. The site now features more prominent video placement as well as interactive tools that enable users to upload their own videos as well as share photos, opinions and stories.
