Foundation Update: Annual golf outing a success

By Lauren Lee, Foundation Director
Pennsylvania Newspaper Association, (717) 703-3002

The PNA Foundation is on a roll due in large part to last week's very successful Foundation Golf Outing! Under the leadership of Denny Getz of Lancaster Newspapers Inc. and Skip Henry, Chairman of the PNA Foundation Board, the 18th annual Foundation Golf Outing grossed $51,000. This event is truly special because it brings together so many different types of PNA supporters including members, vendors, friends and staff. Many thanks to all the participants and sponsors for this year's outing. Your commitment to PNA enables us to carry out our very important mission.

As we move into the second half of 2007, we are focused on building partnerships with other organizations. Our relationship with PSNE is stronger than ever and we are working with Bob Heisse, the president, to create a successful Student Editors Interest Group for campus newspapers. A recent meeting with Margaret Vassilikos, senior vice president of the NAA Foundation, sparked some great ideas about how the two Foundations can work together to better promote newspapers. And thirdly, the Foundation is forming a partnership with Pennsylvania's Freedom of Information Coalition (FOIC) to increase the public's understanding of open record laws and citizen rights.

Please stay tuned to see how these partnerships evolve in the next few months. As always, we invite you to contact us with your ideas and thoughts about the Foundation's activities. Send your thoughts to laurenl@pa-news.org or call (717) 703-3002.
