PNA Foundation and the Pa. NIE Committee present "Thomas Paine: American Patriot"
(Adapted from a work by Mae Kramer Silver)
This 8-week serial and accompanying teacher’s guide will be available on disc, free of charge, to all PNA member newspapers. The recommended timing for publishing the first chapter of the serialized story is on or before Sept. 17, Constitution Day, which is a federally mandated day of study of the U.S. Constitution.
Eight PDF chapters will include space at the bottom for your newspaper to insert a personalized sponsorship message, if you wish. In addition to the PDF version of the eight-chapter serialized story, a text version and a file of graphics will be offered, should you choose to design your own presentation or create a tab with the content and sponsorship messages. Each chapter of the teacher’s guide will contain references to the state’s curriculum standards and suggestions on how teachers can bridge the
content of the serialized story to everyday content in newspapers.
Newspapers that wish to participate in this project are urged now to inform teachers in your circulation areas to expect the serialized story and to make plans to include the study of Thomas Paine’s role in the American Revolution and in the events leading up to the writing of the Constitution.
Materials will be available to ship in early August. For more information, please contact Janet Bevan, manager of outreach & partnerships, at (717) 703-3004 or by e-mail at janetb@pa-news.org
