The Ridgway Record would like to announce the promotion of Kristal Oknefski to editor of The Ridgway Record and Krista Zameroski to advertising manager for The Ridgway Record/Shop-Right The Ultimate Shopper.
Oknefski and Zameroski are both residents of Ridgway and both grew up here. Both are looking forward to the challenge.
"I'm looking forward to using my creativity and experience here to educate the public and create a great product," Oknefski said. "I think Krista and I will be a great team."
Zameroski worked as a Shop-Right salesperson beginning in 1997, a tenure that lasted eight years. She hopes to bring organization and solid customer service to advertisers.
"I look to bring an organized atmosphere that meets deadlines and meets the advertiser’s goals," Zameroski said.
Zameroski has spent the last two years working at the St. Marys Daily Press and said she feels comfortable with the change. She's also looking forward to helping others learn the craft.
"I look forward to the staff, and the training aspects of it," Zameroski said.
Oknefski said helping the public become more educated will be a mission for her.
"I want to encourage more young people to become interested in the newspaper," Oknefski said. "There's a wealth of knowledge within these pages, and as they say 'knowledge is power.'"
Oknefski has worked at The Ridgway Record for the past six years. She started out part-time, taking on minor responsibilities. She was promoted to full-time status after six months which eventually led to her doing all of the layout and design for The Record. She was promoted to copy editor about a year ago and has taken on more responsibility.
"I took on a lot more responsibilities with special sections," Oknefski said. "I realized my talent for designing and went with it."
Oknefski and Zameroski both expressed excitement for the future and upcoming endeavors, including another book, a few projects with area schools, and the overall improvement of the newspaper. They hope their efforts increase readership and gain a sense of respect from the public.
"I look forward to bringing Elk County the most accurate news coverage," Oknefski said. "I want to be here for the people for whatever concerns they may have."
Zameroski also wants to listen to how she can help advertisers with concerns or questions.
"We want to hear suggestions for what the advertiser wants," Zameroski said.
Both are happy to be where they are and Oknefski said she is pleased with the work she has put in at the newspaper.
"I'm definitely proud of my accomplishments," Oknefski said.
