PNA, Jan. 18
Government Affairs Conference: What's Up At The Capitol These Days?
Jan. 31-Feb. 1, The Hilton Harrisburg and Towers
Time is running out to plan on attending this year's Government Affairs Conference, and we're hoping the array of policy and political topics will tempt you to attend. The new legislative session is a particularly important time for newspaper publishers and editors to reinforce, or to start establishing, good relations with their House and Senate members from 'back home' -- particularly the 55 new legislators who've just come to town. Judging from the campaign literature and press releases we've seen, they're eager to talk about issues we care about.
The Governor highlighted his support for a new Open Records Law in his inaugural speech Jan. 16. But the devil is in the details, and now is the time for newspapers to reach out to these new legislators, not several months from now when a bill might be moving, when we might need you to reach out to your House member or senator on a specific point that the PNA supports or opposes. Invite them to the Wednesday evening reception and a dinner afterwards -- Harrisburg has many great restaurants within walking distance of the Hilton -- and get their thoughts on what reform is supposed to mean. Don't forget that the concluding panel will focus on that very topic. Our panelists include key legislators in the thick of what's going on, with discussion moderator Terry Madonna, of the Franklin & Marshall Center for Politics and Public Affairs.
We hope to see you there!
