Butler Eagle hires McElroy as new advertising director
Ken McElroy has been named the new advertising director of the Butler Eagle.
McElroy comes to Butler from the Kenosha News in Kenosha, Wisc., where he was the director of advertising for six years.
He also owned and operated a newspaper advertising training and consulting firm, and he worked for 12 years as a marketing and sales representative for Thomson Newspapers.
He was vice president for national sales for Thomson as well as a regional marketing vice president and manager of marketing programs.
"In my consulting business, I would work with newspapers and newspaper groups teaching sales training, teaching the advantages of print advertising," McElroy said.
Some of his clients included Brown Communications with publications in Ohio, the Houston (Texas) Community Newspapers and the Chesapeake Publishing Group.
He said he looks forward to "applying a lot of what I have learned from other papers and bring the best of advertising practices to the Butler Eagle."
A graduate of Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind., McElroy lives with his wife, Mary Ann, a self-employed piano instructor, in Butler Township.
"Ken is a long-time acquaintance of mine and one of the top advertising minds in the business," said Ron Vodenichar, general manager of the Eagle.
"He was the key advertising trainer for one of the largest newspaper companies in the country and has conducted dozens of community advertising seminars. Ken will be a tremendous asset to the Eagle and to the community."
McElroy replaces Mace Pavelek, who was promoted to general manager of the Eagle Weekly newspapers.
