Jerry Martin, a native of the Chicago area, has been named editor of The Kane Republican.

His appointment was announced Oct. 7 by Peg Kepler, general manager of the Republican.

Martin, 22, attended St. Francis Xavier Elementary School in La Grange, Ill., a Chicago suburb from pre-school through eighth grade.

"This is where I first discovered the enjoyment of writing," Martin said.

Martin attended Nazareth Academy High School in neighboring La Grange Park, Ill. from 1998-2002. He served as a reporter and editorial editor of "The Announcer," the school's monthly newspaper.

Martin, who resides in Kane, attended the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio from 2002-2006. During college, he served as reporter, news editor and editor-in-chief of the "Flyer News," the college's bi-weekly student newspaper.

Martin's hobbies include writing, music, reading and playing the guitar. He is a lifelong fan of both the Chicago White Sox baseball team and the Chicago Bears football team.

Martin's long-term goals include writing a book.
