NAA Foundation honors outstanding young reader programs
The Newspaper Association of America Foundation recognized nine Newspaper In Education programs, eleven Youth Content programs and two Student Newspaper Partnership programs for general excellence during the Foundation’s Young Reader Conference in St. Louis. Dr. Aralynn McMane, director of Young Reader Programs at the World Association of Newspapers based in Paris, France, presented the awards during a luncheon at the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark, the site of the conference July 22-26.
“At this critical time in history, it is vital that the newspaper industry reach young readers in many different ways,” said Margaret Vassilikos, senior vice president and treasurer of the NAA Foundation. “We think our three major programs do just that, especially in light of recent research that shows these programs have a significant impact on growing future readers, helping them have a better understanding of the First Amendment and helping them become more civically engaged.”
