NIE supplement on financial literacy to be made available in August

The Heinz Endowments is sponsoring a NIE supplement on financial literacy for use by the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association and its member newspapers. This supplement, selected by members of a Pennsylvania NIE coordinators review panel, will be available on CD in August. A teacher’s guide and applicable state standards guide will accompany the supplement. There will be no charge to our members to receive these products from the PNA Foundation.

The PNA and its member newspapers may have the option to do the following with the 16-page supplement:

  • Print as an in-paper series
  • Provide online to PA state educators or member’s subscribers through the member newspaper’s individual Web site link (provided the material is protected with a log-in name and password)
  • Produce as a tab
  • Produce individual components of product
  • Reproduce in CD format for distribution to educators/teachers (CD must contain PDF files with security settings in place to prevent reproducing the CD or editing of content.)

The PNA Foundation will be printing a limited number of tabs and will make these available to members on an as needed basis.

There will be a group discussion regarding this NIE supplement at the next PA NIE coordinators' meeting on Aug. 8 at the PNA office. For those who are unable to attend the meeting, we are offering you the opportunity to participate in a one-hour conference call with the group during the 11-noon hour.

To receive the financial literacy supplement on CD, teacher’s guide and state standards, or if you have any questions or concerns regarding the supplement, please contact Janet Bevan at (717) 703-3004 or e-mail janetb@pa-news.org.
