McNally named as executive editor of News Gleaner group

Stephanie Leicht, Publisher of News Gleaner Publications, announced that Patrick McNally has been appointed as the new executive editor. He succeeds Donald Brennan, who left the paper to pursue a career with the Philadelphia Port Authority.

Pat McNally was an easy choice for executive editor," said Leicht, who took over as Publisher five months ago. "His experience in a variety of positions provides him a unique perspective of the News Gleaner, the communities we serve and the industry. He is committed, passionate and dedicated.

"We look forward to him continuing the long tradition of excellence and award winning news coverage that our readership has come to expect from the News Gleaner, while instituting new and innovative ways to report on and involve the community."

A graduate of Archbishop Ryan High School, Bucks County Community College and Temple University, McNally began working in newspapers in 1983, as a Field Supervisor for the Northeast Times. He started at the News Gleaner in 1989, as the company's circulation manager.

He began writing for the paper almost immediately, first as a humor columnist, then branching out as a general assignment reporter. McNally also wrote freelance for other publications, including the Norristown Times-Herald, the Bucks County Courier Times and the Philadelphia Business Journal. He became sports editor of the News Gleaner in 2000.

Since being named sports editor, McNally earned a second place award from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association for column writing, and was also one of three reporters from the News Gleaner to earn first place accolades from the PNA for their Sept. 11 coverage.

As executive editor, McNally will oversee all editorial functions for the six editions of the News Gleaner, as well as the Northeast Breeze and the Olney Times in Philadelphia. He will also supervise the eight editions of Life Newspapers, which cover various areas in Montgomery and Bucks Counties.

Mr. McNally was born in the Morrell Park section of Northeast Philadelphia, and now lives in the Far Northeast with his wife, and their two children.
