Altoona Mirror, Jan. 11
Buck Frank is new Altoona Mirror sports editor
Buck Frank has been promoted to Altoona Mirror sports editor.
Frank came to the Mirror in 1990 and has served as assistant sports editor since 1998. He replaces Neil Rudel, who was named the newspaper's managing editor last month.
Frank has been chiefly responsible for coordinating the sports section's display, both daily and Sunday, along with special sections such as Gameday and the fall and winter sports tabloids.
He has covered the Pittsburgh Steelers for the past four seasons.
Frank graduated from Penn State in 1990 with a degree in journalism. He is a 1986 graduate of Altoona Area High School.
"Buck has always taken a thorough approach to everything he's done at the Mirror," Rudel said. "He's been the quiet star of the sports department for a long time, and I'm certain he'll do an outstanding job as sports editor."
Philip Cmor has been appointed assistant sports editor.
Cmor has spearheaded the Mirror's high school coverage for the past seven years, helping to expand it to 27 high schools. He also covers Penn State football recruiting.
Cmor graduated from St. Francis College in 1989 with a degree in English. He is a 1985 graduate of Glendale High School.
Cmor worked part-time at the Mirror from 1990-96 and returned full-time in 1998, following a two-year stint at the Clearfield Progress.
"Philip has brought total comprehensiveness to our high school sports coverage that has expanded our boundaries," Rudel said. "From North Star to State College, he knows it. Buck and Phil will give the sports department a solid leadership team."
The sports department also includes Frank Polito, Cory Giger, Scott Franco and Todd Irwin along with several part-timers and a number of correspondents.
