The Daily Item has promoted its coordinator of online content and sales, Benjamin Beaver, to online manager.
As The Daily Item’s online manager, Mr. Beaver will oversee new members of the newspaper’s Internet staff, which include a recently hired online sales representative, online graphic interns and anticipated technical staff who will handle the growing demands of The Daily Item’s Web site.
“We are close to launching some exciting new Internet products, and it’s important that we have someone of Ben’s qualifications leading the way at this crucial time,” Advertising Director Brad Bailey said.
“Ben has been a loud and consistent voice for the importance of expanding The Daily Item’s footprint via the Internet.”
The Daily Item has acted as a sort of Internet pioneer in the newspaper business, Mr. Beaver said, and launched one of the three original newspaper Web sites in the state.
For the past year, The Daily Item has been working with parent company Ottaway Newspaper Inc. to redesign the newspaper’s current Web site, which will be unveiled at the end of the month, he said. Among other features, the Web site will include online video and a daily video news broadcast.
“They’ve (The Daily Item) always been a little more progressive when it comes to online development,” Mr. Beaver said. “As people expect more from our Web site, we have to step up and give them what they want.”
Another new online feature is The Daily Item’s real estate Web site, www.dailyitemrealestate.com, which allows users to search the newspapers Real Estate Review book for the specific information they want, from commercial properties and land to rental and residential properties.
“Ben’s hard work and tireless efforts to keep our Internet presence on the leading edge of newspaper Web sites is greatly appreciated,” Mr. Bailey said.
