Times-Tribune hires new business editor
BY STEPHEN DAILY TIMES-SHAMROCK WRITER
Fred Reinecke has been named business editor for The Scranton Times and The
Tribune.
A New Orleans native, Mr. Reinecke, 40, began his duties at The Scranton Times on Jan. 5. He will oversee the business sections of The Scranton Times, The Tribune, and BusinessWeekly, which appears in the The Sunday Times in Scranton and The Sunday Voice in Wilkes-Barre.
Mr. Reinecke is replacing Ken Knelly, who accepted the metro editor job at The Scranton Times in December.
Prior to moving to Scranton, Mr. Reinecke served as the assistant business editor at the
Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville, Fla., for four and a half years. Before that, he worked at New York Times regional newspapers in Louisiana, including reporting and editing roles at the
Daily Comet in Thibodaux and
The Courier and
Bayou Business Review in Houma.
He also contributed freelance business articles to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
"I see a great deal of opportunity to heighten our coverage and presentation, especially when the Times and Tribune consolidate into one edition," Mr. Reinecke said.
He said the leadership at the Scranton Times, coupled with the rich heritage, and cultural and ethnic diversity of the area, were selling points to make the move north.
In searching for a new editor, Lawrence K. Beaupre, managing editor of The Scranton Times and The Tribune, said Mr. Reinecke's background and maturity made him an ideal candidate.
"We were looking for someone with experience in business news and strong editing skills with imagination and leadership ability," Mr. Beaupre said.
In his new duty, Mr. Reinecke plans to focus on creating a business section that is engaging and has wide appeal.
"The emphasis is to create a section that will attract readers interested in business and those who are just interested in spending their money better," he said. "One of my continuing goals is to make my wife read the business section."
Mr. Reinecke, his wife, Michelle, and their four children will reside in Dunmore.
