PNA seeks members for committee serving legal community and
the press
The Bar/Press Committee, a committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, is seeking additional members from the media. Any reporter, editor or publisher who has any interest in serving on the committee, please contact Teri Henning at (717) 703-3076 or
terih@pa-news.org.
By way of background, the Bar/Press committee is composed of members of the bar and members of the media. The committee is co-chaired by a member of the PBA and a member of the Pennsylvania Newspapers Association (PNA). Paul Eyerly IV, President of
the (Bloomsburg) Press Enterprise is currently serving as co-chair.
The mission of the Bar/Press Committee committee is to "promote and increase cooperation and dialogue among the press, the bar and the bench; promote a better informed citizenry; and speak out on the First and Sixth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States throughout
Pennsylvania."
The Committee meets quarterly in various locations around the state, with most meetings held in or near Harrisburg.
Among other things, the Committee coordinates the William A. Schnader Print Media Awards Competition. The goal of that competition is to recognize journalism that enhances the public’s understanding of the justice system, the courts and the people who serve them.
In the past, the committee has supported legislative efforts of the PNA, and has sponsored CLE and other education programs relating to open records and the relationship between lawyers, judges and the media. This year, the committee hopes to organize panel discussions at county bar associations relating to improving communications between lawyers and the media.
Please consider volunteering some of your time to serve on this committee. The time commitment is minimal, and the committee's goals are important to our industry.
